MISSION

In 2017, Fishburne May, LLC was formed by Coty Fishburne, DDS and Rita May of May Consulting, Inc. in South Carolina. The firm is dedicated to developing products based on the awareness of the importance of saliva to oral and general health and to innovating saliva collection.
The company was founded on the belief that saliva is an essential and under-recognized bodily fluid with potential to revolutionize medical testing and self-monitoring.

Founders

Coty P. Fishburne, DDS
Coty P. Fishburne, DDS
Coty Fishburne had already contributed a number of patented inventions to the field of dentistry when he and Rita May met at the Chicago Dental Society MidWinter meeting. Dr. Fishburne had recently conceived of a simple, elegant method to indicate a patient’s dry mouth. Both had intense interest in oral hydration and saliva. In 2017, they formed Fishburne May, LLC to support the development of Dr. Fishburne‘s concept.

A consummate innovator, Dr. Fishburne had been the only dentist to be elected to the Board of Trustees at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and served as a Trustee and the MUSC Foundation for Research and Development Board.

Sadly, Coty Fishburne passed away in April 2019, but not before laying the foundation for the introduction of a device he felt would change the oral health community and the practice of dentistry.

Rita May founded May Consulting, Inc. in New York City in Aug 2001 to support innovative and under-utilized prevention strategies addressing diseases and conditions of the mouth and oral cavity. May Consulting has successfully introduced xylitol as well as several remarkably innovative materials to dental communities .

Her career in the dental arena began in the non-profit sector during the 1990s when she had served as the executive director of the Sjögren’s Syndrome Foundation (SSF). Prior to this, she had served as the manager and executive to the American Surgical Association (ASA).

In 2016, she recognized Dr. Coty Fishburne’s concept as the first opportunity to develop a real time, quantifiable, patient-centered approach to dry mouth. She plans to continue the important work she and Dr. Fishburne started into the next decade.
